Table of Contents no longer building for PDF

Has something changed with the PDF build process in the last 48 hours?

I have a test repository with a set of documents but when it gets built in RTD the Table of Contents in the PDF is blank. I have tried building it again and again but nothing changes and I can't see any error relevant messages.

The repository is an exact copy of another one (v1.0.1 not the latest version) where the TOC had been built.

I have no real idea. We changed out Git checkout handling, but that shouldn't change what happens in your code. I don't really understand the PDF generation code well at all, so I'm not sure.

I've also posted this on the Google groups ...

If I create a gitignore file containing only one line "_build" then the TOC will be created. So it seems that something has definitely changed recently as I've never had a gitignore file in my github repository before now and until this week the TOC has always built ok.

Does that make any sense?

Yes, that is likely the git changes we introduced the other day, to try and fix submodules.

Sorry, I deleted the test version as I had solved it. Yes, you can use the repo at https://github.com/HabitatFramework/UserGuide or https://readthedocs.org/projects/hlugistool-userguide/ to test it locally with/without the gitignore file. Thanks.

So you are saying that without .gitignore it no longer works, and with .gitignore it does? I admit that I only tested my code with a .gitignore file, but that sure shouldn't be a requirement... I'll take a look into it. I suspect that the git clean call might be responsible for this, as it is using the .gitignore file in some way.

Correct, without the gitignore it no longer works! The key difference in the build log is that the .aux file can't be found - I don't know if this is relevant or not.

Believe the root cause of this is #749 -- closing this in favor of that.
