I work for the City of Seattle, where we have a new open-by-preference Open Data policy. I am looking for best practice guidance and examples that I can recommend for incorporation in our City's Open Data program. This is the first forum I've found that seems to be looking at this head on. Any and all suggestions would be most appreciated. More background: We're struggling with what datasets to submit for publishing on our Open Data portal, as we don't yet have guidance on this. There are a few datasets we're considering submitting (e.g., curated sets of Census Bureau data for City-designated neighborhood boundaries). Before we do, I want to suggest some general guidance (criteria for which non-original datasets are good candidates for including on a City open data portal) and best practice examples for good, transparent metadata to inform standards for our City's Open Data portal. |
Based on the discussion in #296 there have been instances where agencies have included other agencies and even other governments data as part of their Public Data Listing. Should we make it more explicit that the purpose of the Enterprise Data Inventory and Public Data Listing is to inventory data managed and produced by that agency?
