This should have been in PR #5550, but the directory is gitignored, and I missed it.

yep looks good

one thought - does it make sense to show not just the first max_rows
but instead 1/2 of max_rows from the front and 1/2 from the end?
kind of like series shoes a long display

(use iloc to select the rows out)

should be a simple change?

I guess that would be more consistent with Series and numpy arrays. It's not trivial to get it right for text and HTML representations, including multiindexed frames, though - a certain amount of refactoring would be needed, I think.
