@jreback This does not run the doctests, only those doctests in the test modules (and I don't think we have such?) See http://nose.readthedocs.org/en/latest/plugins/doctests.html#options

I am in favor of running doctests (with the only purpose of guaranteeing the docs are correct/up to date), but I don't think they will pass at the moment (they are currently not written to pass)

thought this was actually running them
