What's the advantage over PYTHONSTARTUP, or ipython profiles?

Simpler, more portable I guess. Like .matplotlibrc

Would the config file be for customizing the output of df.plot(), or not restricted to visualizations, in which case I don't quite understand what one would use it for. Can you elaborate if this is the case?

Mainly console display behavior right now

Should have an "ignored" option for the reproducible research folk,
mentioned on the "best practices" page.

also useful for google analytics integration so the default token store can be in a user directory rather than in the pandas directory (problem for OSX users).

It's just a caution, after having trouble of that sort with matplotlibrc on different boxes.
The "ignored" thing isn't really workable.
