make path and file environment variables os formatted

path an environment related environment variables are now mixed both / and \ (each envvar is consistent but some are windows style other are unix style)
this causes problems with hook recipes
personally I would prefer unix style because of version control keeping the envvars the same but it conflicts with windows hook recipes that use \ to concatenate locations based on environment variables.
