Perhaps we should consider upgrading to a newer version of the sbt-sonatype plugin? We're currently on 3.6 and the release notes indicate various fixes for timeout issues in the 3.9.x range.

@griggt A little disappointing IMO that some topics such as this one don't receive the attention they deserve. Look for instance at the discussion feed 13799 started one month ago.
