My project has a _templates/layout.html template that gets used when I run make html locally, overriding the default Sphinx layout. But when I pointed readthedocs at my project, the theme gets ignored and a theme without enough room around its unordered lists gets used instead:

How can I convince readthedocs to build my documentation exactly as Sphinx does when I run it locally?
