Likely to be release in March, after pandas 2.0. I guess we can decide at that point or later whether we need a 1.5.5 or not.

@pandas-dev/pandas-core I forgot to bring this up at the dev call, but is this release still happening? The only things that have landed are doc changes and there are only 13 open issues.

I'm asking since it would make my life easier (would be able to decommission the old wheel builders). If we still want to make a 1.5.4, we should schedule a time.

IMO I don't think it's necessary to release a 1.5.4 since no code changes have been backported

We will surely find things to backport if we want to keep the pandas 1 series open, but I'm personally happy to leave 1.5.3 as the latest pandas 1 release.
