How to use both long and short strategies at the same time?

How do we exclusively close long or short positions instead of buy/sell? self.position.close() closes either position, I guess. Looks like we can explicitly cancel long or short orders based on the size.

I dont have mutually exclusive positions here.. if I enable both long and short, the results are not adding up to long only + short only..
