PR #696 dropped support for Go 1.6

I posted a comment there, but now opening an issue to ask:

Could you revert this, please, at least until Go 1.6 support is entirely dropped from Google App Engine?

1.8 is the default version now, but users can still opt back in to drop back to 1.6.

Once GAE gets to 1.10, versions will be available much faster, and your support plan will be compatible with GAE.

Keeping 1.6 a little while longer is fine by me, but what's the timeframe here?

~ February, I'd expect.

Why don't you use go-sql-driver 1.3?
Go 1.6 support on master branch is really required?

As I see it, it's not about the version they use but the version their customers use in CI/CD pipelines.

I'm sorry, I messed up by not making this actionable. What I wanted was an okay by another maintainer. As we are a good third of the way into February now, I guess this won't make much of a difference anymore.

It'd still be nice. It's actually more like late 2018 rather than February.

@broady I'm afraid late 2018 would constrain us too much.
Maybe this helps to push more people into new App engine versions or into dep or Bazel.
